Orland Park outlines multi‑phase plan to widen 143rd Street, secures initial funding

Section Two, from Will Cook Road to Wolf Road, will continue the north‑side multi‑use path, add a new traffic signal at Creek Crossing Drive and make intersection improvements at 143rd Street and Wolf Road. The presenter said the village has secured $26.2 million for design and construction for this section, and anticipates work in 2029. The presentation also said the project aims to reduce closures and flooding along 143rd Street during and after severe weather.
Section Three, from Wolf Road to West Avenue, would add further widening, a multi‑use path along McGinnis Slough and consideration of an additional path around the hill at 143rd Street and Wolf Road. The presenter said the village intends to preserve oak trees at the northeast corner of 143rd Street and Wolf Road. For Section Three the village is seeking $40 million in construction funding and submitted a build grant application requesting $25 million on February 24, 2026; a construction timeline for that section has not been determined.
