Brookshire council approves cancer walk, playground repairs and park bench infill; OKs Hov Clubhouse roof

The Brookshire City Council approved a slate of community-event and parks maintenance items during its July 2 meeting.
Denise OD asked the council to approve Taylor’s Playhouse’s annual cancer-awareness walk and clarified the event start time as 9:30 a.m.; the council approved the request and the route with a police escort. "I'm here this evening to request the city council's approval to host Taylor's Playhouse annual cancer awareness walk..." she said.
The council also approved a cost estimate of $11,930.81, to be paid by the Economic Development Corporation, to pour concrete infill around four rectangular picnic-table pads and six park benches at the amphitheater to address ant problems and stabilize the furniture. Staff said EDC would furnish the cost.
For playground safety, staff presented quotes for engineered wood fiber: Bostic Park $6,542.92 and Lower Park $12,465.72; council authorized purchases for both parks. The council also approved a $19,486.83 cost estimate to replace the roof at the Hov (Willie Johnson) clubhouse, funded from the parks budget; staff presented three bids and recommended Preferred Facilities Group based on a full-scope inspection.
All four items were approved by voice vote. Staff will coordinate logistics for the walk with the police department and manage project procurement and installation for the parks and roof work.
