Brookshire reviews FY2026–27 capital draft with major road, drainage and facility items

City finance and staff presented draft one and draft two of Brookshire’s FY2026–27 capital budget on July 2, highlighting a list of proposed projects and cost estimates to guide council priorities.
Highlights included a Briar Brook repair estimated at roughly $400,000 (inflation-adjusted estimate shown in the presentation), ditch-cleaning and Midtown drainage projects (each with preliminary estimates near $200,000), a public-works building remodel, the newly reclassified Economic Development Corporation building renovation (staff presented a $153,724.63 estimate), and a possible multi-phase police facility/evidence-room build-out and related equipment requests. Staff also listed paid projects, pending purchase orders and items that could be phased to spread cost over multiple years.
Staff noted several vehicle and equipment requests — including three pickup trucks, police vehicles and off-road side-by-sides — and a road-repair phase three proposal (roughly $300,000) that could be supplemented by EDC funds. City officials said available funding and EDC support make both draft one and draft two financially feasible but that final decisions must be made at budget workshops.
Staff urged council members to review the drafts and attend the July 16 workshop to finalize prioritization and any required budget allocations.
