During a public hearing staff reviewed the list of parcels advertised for sale and noted that two vacant lots on South 10th Street were removed from the agenda while staff verifies whether an easement affects those properties. The hearing had been published in the Daily Gate City on June 17, 2026 as required by Iowa law.
Council then approved a resolution authorizing the sale of the listed parcels; staff said closing letters will be sent to purchasers next week and staff expects deed transfers to follow within a few weeks depending on attorney review.
Separately, the council considered the sale of 1908 Tiemeyer Street, a house declared surplus and offered through the sealed-bid process. Staff reported bids were opened May 7, 2026 and that Mary Cecil submitted the highest responsible bid at $11,371. The sale is subject to a purchase-and-development agreement requiring rehabilitation of the existing structures within a two-year timeframe, and the agreement includes provisions to protect the city if the purchaser does not meet obligations.
Council members expressed support for rehabilitating the property and noted an adjacent house will be demolished and that resulting lot will be placed for sale.
