The Hobart City Redevelopment Authority approved proposed festival dates for June, July and September and heard a director’s report outlining expanded youth programming and event staffing. The meeting included routine approvals of minutes, register of claims and the agenda and concluded with a unanimous voice vote to adjourn.
At the start of new business, a presenter described plans to repeat last year’s festival footprint using the grass area behind a local restaurant for stage and sound and proposed dates in June, July and September. The chair called for a motion to approve the proposed dates; the motion was seconded and the chair announced the motion carried with no recorded opposition.
In the director’s report, S5, the director, said applications for the market and festival are "live, and they're coming in hot for all of the market and festival," and that vendor interest already allows staff to be selective. S5 listed recent program successes — a sold-out Valentine’s dinner and a well-attended Nerf event — and said the authority hired an events staffer, Corinne, to coordinate programming full time. S5 said the authority plans to expand CAPS, an after-school program run in partnership with police, and work with the mayor's youth council to broaden offerings beyond sports to homework help and music. S5 described a proposed schedule of Monday–Thursday afternoons "about 3 p.m. to about 5 p.m." for the youth program, with flexibility to expand based on demand.
Members discussed logistics for vendors and the park timeline. S5 told the group that park work could begin around Sept. 1, which would allow the market season to run through August. The director said staff will present more detailed calendars and vendor surveys as planning continues.
Routine procedural matters were handled early in the meeting: a motion to approve the previous meeting’s minutes was moved and seconded and carried; the chair also called votes to approve the register of claims and the meeting agenda, all of which passed by voice vote.
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn carried by voice vote. The authority did not take any planning-approval votes tied to permits during this session; members indicated staff will bring any required public-works or parking requests to the public-works board as needed.
