Fire chief urges ballot levy, says department needs about $2 million to operate

Fire Chief Brian Gutman asked the Finance Committee on July 14 to consider placing a fire levy on the ballot, saying he expected the fire department to require about $2 million to run efficiently for supplies, personnel and vehicles.
"He stated that he expected the fire department to be a 2 million dollar department to run efficiently (supplies, personnel, vehicles, etc.)," the transcript notes. Auditor Gabe Below said he will discuss preparing an ordinance for a levy with Mrs. Shenker, indicating staff follow-up to draft a proposal for committee consideration.
The committee did not vote on a levy ordinance during the session. Any decision to put a levy to voters would require a formal ordinance and subsequent steps beyond this meeting.
