Police Jury approves promotions, accepts resignations, upholds discipline and endorses juror for state post

At its Sept. 16 meeting the Ouachita Parish Police Jury approved multiple personnel actions for parish departments, accepted resignations and adopted a resolution endorsing Juror Michael Thompson for a regional post with the Police Jury Association of Louisiana.
Chief Moore recommended promotions in the Fire Department: Cody Jones from permanent driver to probationary captain, and Jason McMillon from permanent chief of training to provisional chief of administration, effective Sept. 16, 2024; the Jury approved both promotions. The Jury accepted resignations: Kenneth A. Gable (resignation effective Sept. 6, 2024) and Kameron Kile (resignation effective Sept. 11, 2024).
The Jury approved a disciplinary action concerning Austin Mitcham: a 30-day suspension without pay, demotion from permanent driver to permanent firefighter, and ineligibility to take promotional exams for one year; the effective date for actions is Oct. 14, 2024. Motions for personnel actions were approved without opposition.
Assistant District Attorney Mr. Mitchell requested the Jury continue 4th Judicial District Court payroll services for one additional pay period while an agreement is finalized; the Jury approved continuing payroll services for one more pay period. Public Works presented and the Jury approved variance requests (Frost Tower Subdivision and Woodlawn Estates Unit 2), a CDL pay increase for Nicholas Smith, promotions for Kyle McKee and Matthew Watson, and hiring Andre Harris as a general laborer. Mr. Mitchell also recommended approval of a beer and liquor retail application for Muhammad Haseeb dba Smoker’s Paradise of Swartz; the Jury approved the application.
The Jury adopted Resolution No. 24-44 endorsing Michael Thompson for the position of Region 5 Representative on the Executive Board of the Police Jury Association of Louisiana; the resolution cites Thompson’s service since 2019 and expresses the Jury’s support.
What happens next: the disciplinary actions take effect Oct. 14, 2024. Personnel promotions and hires will proceed under departmental processes. The endorsement will be transmitted per the resolution’s directions.
