Court votes to surplus aging ambulance, approve $28,000 purchase and pursue federal grant

Spencer County Fiscal Court on Monday moved to replace an aging ambulance and to pursue federal and state grant funding to offset the cost.
EMS Supervisor R. Klinglesmith described costly repairs to Med 4 and recommended replacement. The court first voted on a motion to repair Med 4; that motion failed (ayes: Esq. Stump, Esq. Eldridge, Esq. Travis; nays: Esq. Pharris, Judge Travis, Esq. Cotton). The court then voted to surplus Med 4 and purchase a 2013 used ambulance for $28,000. The purchase motion was made by Judge Travis, seconded by Esq. Stump, and passed with ayes recorded from Esq. Pharris, Judge Travis, Esq. Cotton and Esq. Stump and nays from Esq. Eldridge and Esq. Travis.
Klinglesmith also asked the court to authorize applying for an Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) grant to support a new response vehicle; the AFG application the county plans to submit is for $150,000, with a 10% local cost share. Klinglesmith said the county is simultaneously applying for a KY G.R.A.N.T.S award that, if approved, would reduce the county’s share to roughly $1,500. The court voted unanimously to allow Klinglesmith to apply for the AFG grant and instructed the County Judge Executive to prepare a resolution.
The court recorded that transfers and budget adjustments to identify funding sources for the purchase will be placed on the agenda for a special-called meeting on June 3.
