At its Aug. 13 meeting Union County Council approved routine administrative items including approval of the July 9 minutes, two board appointments and adoption of a multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan by resolution.
Chairman Phillip G. Russell II asked for corrections to the July 9 minutes; none were offered and Vice Chair David Sinclair moved to approve the minutes, a motion Councilman John Flood seconded that carried unanimously. Russell presented service awards to Jerry Farr and Erin Stokes for five years at the county detention center.
Council approved nominations to two boards: James Parris for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (moved by Councilman John Flood, seconded by Vice Chair Sinclair) and Blake Wilson for the Phillipi Fire Department Board (nominated by Councilwoman Annie Smith; motion and second recorded and approved unanimously). The council also adopted a previously reviewed multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan by resolution after the State Emergency Management Division requested a resolution for recordkeeping; Vice Chair Sinclair moved to adopt and Councilwoman Annie Smith seconded.
Council entered executive session at 5:50 p.m. to discuss a personnel matter and exited at 6:06 p.m.; Chairman Russell announced no action was taken in executive session. Vice Chair Sinclair moved to adjourn and Councilwoman Smith seconded; the meeting adjourned at 6:07 p.m. Minutes bear the signatures of Chairman Phillip G. Russell II and Clerk Kindra W. Horne.
