Union County Council voted unanimously to enter a $306,000 contract to install a new Miracle League field at Timken Sports Complex, to be funded from the county's Hospitality and Accommodations Tax Fund.
Chairman Phillip G. Russell II said the project had been recommended during a Finance and Administration Committee meeting in last year’s budget process but had not been approved at a council meeting. Vice Chair David Sinclair moved to enter into the contract and Councilperson Annie Smith seconded. Council asked for confirmation that the funding source was the hospitality tax; Chairman Russell confirmed it would be financed from those funds and the motion passed unanimously.
County staff scheduled the field resurfacing to start May 14 with a grand reopening planned for May 19. The field will be used primarily for Miracle League activities and also for other events managed by Timken Sports Complex staff.
