Union County appoints library staffer to South Carolina First Steps; Healthy U grant tabled

Union County Council members on Oct. 8 appointed Taylor Atkinson to the South Carolina First Steps Board and tabled a proposed SC DAODAS COVID Relief Program Grant for Healthy U Behavioral Health Services.
Chairman Phillip G. Russell II noted that Act 81, signed by the governor, calls for a library staff member to serve on the First Steps Board; the Union County Carnegie Library Board recommended Taylor Atkinson for that seat. Councilwoman Annie Smith moved to appoint Atkinson and Councilwoman Carolyn Rutherford seconded; the vote was unanimous.
Separately, Chairman Russell presented a proposed Healthy U grant for $11,976.83. Councilman John Glenn moved to table the grant for further review; Councilman Danny Bright seconded and the motion to table carried unanimously. Council directed that grant materials be re‑presented to the council in accordance with the county’s ordinance requiring presentation of grants to council.
