Union County Sheriff’s Office earns state accreditation, council recognizes staff

Chris Watts, chairman of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation Council and chief of the Rock Hill Police Department, told the Union County Council on Sept. 10 that the Union County Sheriff’s Office had completed the state accreditation assessment and met all 302 required standards. Watts said the Accreditation Council unanimously approved the sheriff’s office for accreditation and quoted the lead assessor in praising the office’s professionalism.
Watts recognized the Accreditation Manager, Investigator Brad Woods, for his diligence and dedication in completing the process. "Under the leadership of Sheriff Jeff Bailey, the deputies and staff of the Union County Sheriff’s Office [demonstrated] their willingness and dedication to adhere to the prescribed standards," Watts said, quoting the lead assessor.
Sheriff Jeff Bailey thanked his staff and said he had "never been prouder" of their hard work. The council presented formal recognition for the achievement.
According to Watts, only 56 of South Carolina’s roughly 318 law enforcement agencies (including state, county, municipal and tribal agencies) are accredited; among sheriff’s offices, 15 of 46 have accreditation, underscoring the county office’s relative rarity among peers.
