Students present Educators Rising and Rockville vocational agriculture experiences

Two student groups presented to the board about experiential learning programs that connect high-school students to career pathways.
At the Rockville High School presentation, Grace Aroli, an animal science teacher, introduced three East Windsor students graduating from a regional vocational agricultural program who thanked the board for support. Students described FFA activities, a honey harvest, travel to national conventions and how the program prepared them for college plans in animal science and education.
Educators Rising advisor Cheryl Gustson introduced her grant-funded chapter and several student officers, who explained lesson planning, presentations (including a ‘‘safe screen time’’ lesson), symposium participation, and a signing day for students committing to education majors. Students described classroom activities that taught self-advocacy, lesson adaptation, and leadership. Thomas Farerk said joining Educators Rising confirmed his desire to become a teacher; Jack Kitridge said the club helped him prepare for special-education career plans.
The board praised both programs and awarded certificates to participating seniors. Members noted the programs’ role in growing the district’s teacher pipeline and in providing hands-on career preparation.
