Board approves agreement to maintain special-ed co-op director's insurance; several personnel items pass unanimously

The board approved an agreement with Centerville FET special services (CFSS) that will make the co-op’s director, Megan Gilman, an employee of Fate County for purposes of insurance coverage. Staff said CFSS had been unable to obtain insurance because of low numbers of employees; by becoming a county employee with salary paid through a grant, Ms. Gilman regains standard coverage.
A presenter told the board the change "will cover her" in the event of litigation, addressing prior concerns about protection for co-op staff. The board approved the agreement by voice vote, recorded as 5-0.
After that item, the board reviewed an additional employment report that had been added to the packet that afternoon. Members noted minor confusion about how one name appeared in the packet but checked the signed document and approved the report by motion; the vote was recorded as 5-0.
The board also approved a professional development request (including an IFCA coaches association item referenced in the packet) by voice vote, again recorded as 5-0.
No amendments or conditions were attached to the approvals; staff said the CFSS director’s salary will continue to be paid through a grant and that the arrangement does not otherwise change service delivery to students.
