Dawes County approves tourism grants, seeks lodging-tax permit list from state

Tourism Director Kerri Rempp told the Dawes County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 14 that several tourism-related grant requests were ready for the board's approval.
Rempp presented a Post Playhouse improvement grant of $25,000 to be used toward housing actors; incentive grants for Chadron Rotary and Crawford Serving Humanities of $2,000 each (Rempp noted the incentive-grant cap is $2,000 but the entities can return for advertising revenue); a Chadron Festival of Quilts grant of $980; and a Crawford Cattle Call grant of $1,000. Commissioner Walter Juhlin moved to approve all grants in their requested amounts and Vice Chairman Jake Stewart seconded the motion. The board approved the grants by roll-call vote, Ayes: Stewart and Juhlin.
Rempp also shared a draft letter to the Nebraska Department of Revenue requesting a listing of lodging tax permit holders; the board directed the Vice Chairman to sign the letter. Separately, the board approved using Improvement Fund proceeds for visitor-promotion grants.
The minutes record no dissent and show the board approved the actions unanimously (Ayes: Juhlin and Stewart). The county clerk's office retains the grant paperwork and the signed letter for public inspection.
