UNL Extension asks Dawes County to restore Extension office manager to full time

Melissa Mracek of UNL Extension asked the Dawes County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 23 to restore the Extension office manager position to full time, telling the board that recruiting and retaining part-time help would be difficult. Mracek also presented a breakdown of duties assigned to the office manager.
Commissioner Stewart responded during the budget hearing and suggested starting the office manager at part time with a six-month orientation period; he said the board could revisit staffing and make additional changes later if circumstances warrant. The exchange was part of the county’s 2025–26 budget hearing; no formal motion regarding the position change was recorded in the minutes.
Tom Menke, a meeting participant, asked where the RSVP budget appears in the county budget. The board closed the budget hearing at 9:19 a.m. and proceeded to adopt the appropriation resolution.
