Dawes County sets 2025–26 property tax levy and adopts $4.55 million budget

The Dawes County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 23 adopted a property tax levy of 0.363090 for fiscal year 2025–26 and approved the county’s budget, authorizing departments to expend appropriated amounts for the year. The board held public hearings and adopted two resolutions to set the levy and confirm appropriations.
Chairman Vic Rivera opened the final tax hearing at 9:00 a.m. and reported the 2025–26 tax request as $4,550,016.39, an increase of $263,007.02 from the prior year’s request of $4,287,009.37. The board noted copies of the proposed budget were available and that the legal notice ran in the Crawford Clipper on Sept. 17, 2025. No members of the public spoke during the tax hearing.
Commissioner Stewart moved and Commissioner Juhlin seconded a motion to adopt Resolution No. 2025-24 setting the levy at 0.363090. The roll-call vote recorded Commissioners Juhlin, Stewart and Rivera voting aye; the motion carried unanimously. The board formally closed the tax hearing at 9:12 a.m.
At 9:15 a.m. the board opened the public hearing on the county budget. After a brief public exchange the board closed the budget hearing at 9:19 a.m. Commissioner Stewart moved and Commissioner Juhlin seconded adoption of Resolution No. 2025-25 authorizing offices, departments, activities and institutions to expend amounts appropriated for fiscal year 2025–2026. The roll-call vote recorded Commissioners Stewart, Rivera and Juhlin voting aye; the motion carried unanimously.
The clerk’s minutes state that full texts of both resolutions are available upon request from the Dawes County Clerk’s Office during normal business hours. The meeting adjourned at 9:20 a.m.
