River Ridge CDD hears lakes and stormwater updates after Tropical Storm Debbie; residents raise drainage and conservation concerns

Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes told the board the lakes "appear to be in very good shape," that preserves and dry-retention maintenance are underway, and that crews removed fallen trees from the Florida Power & Light ditch and outfall structure ahead of an approaching tropical storm. He said repairs to the Lake H1-B nano-bubbler, which lost prime after being turned off, would be completed the next day, and that Premier changed service frequency from quarterly to monthly for the rainy season. Mr. Kurth also noted that he and staff will present proposals for the electrical portion of a compressor relocation project in the Masters Lake.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs reported the MRI project to replace Pinehurst valley gutter inlet grates is about 80% complete and that he will confirm the schedule for the asphalt patch. Regarding Tropical Storm Debbie, Mr. Krebs said parts of the community received "almost 8 inches of rain in two or three days" and that some systems flowed unobstructed but reached capacity; he recommended adding a drainage connection to allow water to bypass pipes and inlets and flow directly into lake E1-A.
A resident said standing water is appearing through a slab and blamed it for mold in her unit; Mr. Krebs said he did not believe the standing water caused the mold because other units did not report the same problem. Resident Anita Bachragh asked that a downed tree by River 9 Catch Basin #134 be brought upright and requested re-clearing of a conservation area; Mr. Willis asked her to send photographs for staff review. Resident Christine Mantilia asked about stormwater management permits and whether fire departments could pump lake water to lower levels; Mr. Krebs said that would risk plants and fish and would require approval from the South Florida Water Management District. Resident Larry Fiesel inquired about the speed-sign project; Mr. Willis said Mr. Long is scheduling training with his staff and will provide an update at the next meeting.
