District hears lake maintenance update; compressor sound reduced but tone remains a concern

Premier Lakes reported routine algae growth, removal of a shoreline palm and that a compressor cabinet reduced measured noise from 64 to 52 decibels at Masters Lake; operations staff said the sound’s tone remains an issue and the board asked staff to study moving the compressor and to hold planting at Lake E4-A pending agreement with the Edgewater Association.
Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes told the board the lakes, preserves and dry retention areas are generally in good condition but noted seasonal algae growth and that a palm tree along the shoreline of Lake E7A was removed. He said a cabinet installed around the Masters Lake compressor reduced the measured sound level from 64 to 52 decibels at a midpoint between the compressor and the screen line.
Operations Manager Shane Willis said the concern is not only the measured decibel level but also the tonal quality produced by the aerator, and he and Mr. Kurth will coordinate on whether moving the compressor will reduce the perceived tone. The Board asked staff to coordinate with the Kurths and to report findings at the next meeting.
Supervisor Bob Schultz summarized flooding and erosion concerns in Edgewater, recommended additional piping, littoral plantings and rip-rap, and suggested meetings with the Edgewater Association and management to seek mutually acceptable solutions. The Board reached consensus to delay planting Canna lilies at Lake E4-A until an agreement with the Edgewater Association is reached.
Mr. Kurth left the call after the update; staff will report back with proposed mitigation steps and any easement constraints affecting compressor relocation or planting schedules.
