Albion–York traffic signal project cleared to proceed; NOPEC reimbursement expected

The Streets Committee on Oct. 7 confirmed the Albion and York traffic-signal project has funding and said the city will move forward with contractor selection and procurement.
Chair Joanne Krejci asked whether the city was still waiting on money for the Albion–York signal. Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz said the money has been received and predicted the project is ready to begin once a contractor is selected. When asked about the cost, Antoskiewicz said he believed it was about $57,000 and that the city will submit the invoices to NOPEC for reimbursement after bidding; he described part of the work as an “upgrade to the box.”
Vice Chair Mary Gorjanc asked whether the $57,000 was the cost of the light or the amount reimbursed; the mayor said it was both and that NOPEC has given preliminary approval. Councilor John Nickell said no additional traffic study is required for this project.
Next steps: the city will finalize bid specifications, select a contractor and procure the signal equipment; reimbursement will be sought from NOPEC after project costs are submitted.
