Commissioners move to prohibit cooking at senior center, appoint new board member

Daniels County commissioners voted Sept. 15 to accept Allison as a board appointee and agreed to formalize a prohibition on cooking at the senior citizen center, citing liability and commercial-kitchen certification requirements.
The senior center delegation said a sink and potential hand-washing station were being discussed but commissioners emphasized that allowing food preparation without proper commercial certification could expose the county to liability. "We are not going to allow no more cooking down there," one commissioner said, and the board asked staff to send an official letter documenting the policy change and to include the decision in the meeting minutes so the center would be informed.
The board also discussed storage and organization at the center and recommended a fall cleanout to remove unused donated items and better allocate space. Commissioners approved Allison's appointment by motion and voice vote.
