Fire department representatives listed priorities including a replacement fire truck (their top priority), hoses, pumps and personal protective equipment. Commissioners explored options to save or transfer carryover and contribution funds into the county's machinery and equipment account (940) to build toward a truck purchase, and discussed how grant reimbursements and annual budget limits affect that strategy. They also debated ownership and liability for a county vehicle that has been used by a local fire district and agreed to follow up with the county attorney and DNRC on potential transfers.
Commissioners asked the fire department to submit a prioritized equipment list and monthly budget reports so the board can monitor spending and identify small cutbacks that make long-term savings possible. They also discussed mutual-aid agreements and the liability implications of shared equipment on large fires.
