Byron council unanimously approves streetlights, cemetery spraying, grant application, TSPLOST bank account and vehicle lease

At its May 9 meeting the Byron City Mayor and Council unanimously approved a series of routine measures — including installation of five streetlights in Sterling Place, twice-yearly cemetery spraying, a TSPLOST 2022 bank account, a Rural Downtown Development Grant application (with 10% match) and a GMA lease supplement to acquire a Ford F-150 for Public Works.
The Byron City Mayor and Council approved a bundle of routine municipal actions on May 9, including contracts and authorizations intended to support local public works and grant-seeking.
Council approved a Flint Energies contract to install five streetlights in the Sterling Place subdivision. The motion was made by Council Member Chris Hodges and seconded by Alan Dorsey and carried unanimously.
The council authorized a Permanent BMP Maintenance Agreement with TACALA, LLC for tax map 055D 095 after a motion by Chris Hodges and a second by James Richardson. The council also approved submitting an application for a Rural Downtown Development Grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and agreed to the required 10% local match; that motion was made by Rusty Adams and seconded by Chris Hodges.
Following review of banking options after Synovus's Byron branch closure, council members authorized opening a new bank account for the 2022 TSPLOST funds. Council also approved contracting Hedge Row Landscaping to spray Byron City Cemetery twice a year.
The mayor was authorized to execute a supplemental lease under the GMA Direct Leasing Program to acquire a Ford F-150 for the Public Works department. All motions recorded in the minutes were unanimous.
Council also voted to enter a closed session at 6:25 p.m. to discuss real estate acquisition and disposition under O.C.G.A. 50-14-2; the meeting returned to open session at 6:58 p.m. and adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
