Township reviews Veterans Park design, municipal operations and local events; Maurice River dredging delayed

At the Feb. 17 agenda review, Maurice River Township officials covered a range of operational items including parks planning, equipment replacement and community events.
Mayor Ken Whildin described a Veterans Park design by Mr. Morrissey and said the layout must be reconfigured to improve parking for events and accommodate baseball uses. The committee also agreed to appoint Dot Dayton and Chuck Ciaurelli to the Parks and Recreation Committee for 2026.
On equipment, Whildin and CMFO Allen Foster said parts for the township—opiers are becoming obsolete; Foster indicated support for replacement provided a service agreement is included and asked Deputy Municipal Clerk Ashlee Leith to obtain quotes.
The committee agreed to support Tri-County nnual motorcycle events in principle and to include a resolution on the consent agenda. Committeeman Ben Stowman reported the food bank approved purchases for the Senior Center and said, "The weather was holding up the dredging of the Maurice River." Deputy Mayor Joseph Sterling said Dunkin' Donuts plans aim to appear before the Land Use Board in April and that Parks & Rec has two new members and a 5K presentation scheduled Thursday.
Mayor Whildin also reported participation in recent EMS and DEP meetings and said DEP plans a firefighter-foam removal operation at Southern State Correctional Facility between March 16 and March 26 in which a contractor will haul foam off-site.
Next steps: staff will collect copier quotes, finalize Parks & Rec appointments on the Feb. 19 consent agenda, and prepare outreach for code enforcement and event logistics.
