Township authorizes emergency berm survey and roadway survey; discusses DOT closures and river dredging

The Committee approved payment of $3,550 for a road survey to complete permit applications related to an emergency repair of a berm at the Boat World area. Officials said the berm repair was necessary to protect a Township roadway and potentially Newell Road.
The Committee also authorized payment of $7,500 to Delaware Valley Data Collection for survey scope needed to support East Point Road repaving tied to a New Jersey DOT resurfacing grant; Engineer Cormac Morrissey said some of the survey cost may be refundable through the grant. Morrissey also reported that soil analyses are being conducted along the Cumberland County coastline, work related to the local shellfish industry.
Mayor Ken Whildin told the Committee that a second phase of river dredging had started and that the federal government funded a five-year river deepening study; he said cross-pipe work at the dike should begin soon. The Committee discussed a DOT closure at Menantico Bridge on Route 47 and Schooner Landing Road that affects emergency and service access; Solicitor Justin White said he would prepare a letter addressing the closure.
The Committee approved the survey payments on motions that passed unanimously (Ayes: Sterling, Stowman, Whildin).
