County veterans director offers donated gazebo for Maurice River Township Veterans Park

Steven Cervini, identified in the meeting as the new director of the county Veterans Affairs office, told the Township Committee that "all the costs are going to be taken care of and it will be donated to the Township." Mayor Ken Whildin thanked Cervini for the offer.
Committee members and veterans’ advocates discussed the size and intended uses of the structure. Roy Oliver asked that the gazebo be large enough to support small bands for concerts, noting the 2016 Wall of Honor dedication included a 25-minute military band performance. Oliver said he would contribute $500 toward the cost of a band if the Committee approved a musical dedication. Rich Parent, described at the meeting as a veterans advocate, reviewed Cervini’s background and urged public outreach; he also referenced a county public meeting scheduled for Feb. 11 in Bridgeton.
The Committee did not vote on the gazebo design or a construction contract at the Jan. 15 meeting. Officials said the project will require a design and cost estimate before final approvals; the Committee acknowledged potential community uses beyond veterans events. Next steps discussed included producing a design, obtaining a cost estimate, and coordinating plans for a formal dedication.
