The University Heights City Council voted Dec. 1 to amend the non-collective bargaining position list to designate the Assistant Clerk of Council as a full-time position, set the salary range for the role, and fix the rate of pay for the current assistant.
Vice Mayor Michele Weiss explained the change was prompted by an increased public-record workload that had shifted responsibilities to the Law Director. Mayor Brennan noted that responding to Hatzalah’s public-record requests consumed roughly 80 hours of staff or Law Department time. Council moved to suspend the rules and adopted Ordinance 2025-50 as an emergency; the motion carried with all voting "aye."
Why it matters: Council said the additional staff capacity will allow clerks to respond to record requests and other duties without routing those tasks through the Law Department. The ordinance was approved as an emergency to take effect immediately.
