Union 01 School Board approves 3% raise and one-year extension for Superintendent Haney, adopts 2025'26 goals

The Union 01 School Board voted Aug. 18 to give Superintendent Haney a 3% cost-of-living increase, extend his contract by one year and adopt the district's 2025'26 superintendent goals, a board trustee said during the meeting.
A trustee moved that "based on the evaluation and the above average scoring of Mister Haney's 2024'25 goals, I make a motion that we give Mister Haney a 3% cost of living increase equivalent to the noncertified staff increase for 2025'26 and extend his contract by 1 year," the trustee said. The motion was seconded by Trustee Brewington and approved on a roll-call vote (8 yes, 1 no). The roll call recorded a no vote from Mister Jeter; the other members present voted yes.
The same trustee then moved to approve the superintendent's goals for 2025'26 "as presented with the addition of the following two goals," saying the board should add a 90% retention target and a districtwide safety review. The trustee described the additions as: a 90% retention rate for certified personnel, excluding retirees, and a safety evaluation of all district buildings to identify safety concerns and preventative measures. Miss Truett seconded the goals motion; the board approved it on roll call.
Board members had previously entered executive session to discuss the superintendent's goals, evaluation and contract; the chair stated the board returned to open session and no votes were taken during the closed meeting.
The actions complete the board's formal review of the superintendent's performance and set explicit targets for staff retention and building safety. With no additional business on the agenda, the board voted to adjourn.
