Selectboard authorizes contingency funds, reaffirms parking projects and orders surveys for FEMA‑damaged areas

At its June 17 meeting, the Chebeague Island Selectboard approved several project authorizations and administrative steps to advance infrastructure work.
The board authorized the Town Administrator to spend up to $15,000 from the Selectboard contingency fund to support construction of Jenks Road parking improvements, including cost estimation, contractor engagement and initial construction activities. The motion was moved by Carol White, seconded by David Hill, and recorded as unanimous.
The board reaffirmed its prior approval of the Hook Road/Indian Point parking project and authorized the Town Administrator to proceed with contractor coordination and construction of the approved design. The board directed staff to install municipal parking signage and authorized staff to pursue traffic‑calming technical assistance through the Bicycle Coalition of Maine.
The board also authorized up to $15,000 from FY26 Selectboard contingency to cover the cost of general contracted services with GEI (motion by Carol White, seconded by Ehrhardt Groothoff) and approved up to $5,000 from contingency to install an LCD/Smart TV at the Town Office (motion by Carol White, seconded by Richard Hackel). Both motions passed unanimously.
For FEMA‑related repairs, the Town Administrator reviewed a proposal from Owen‑Haskell, Inc. for boundary surveys of right‑of‑way areas. The board authorized the Town Administrator to proceed with the proposed surveys and to coordinate with FEMA to determine whether survey costs are reimbursable or eligible within a project scope; the motion was moved by Richard Hackel and seconded by Ehrhardt Groothoff and carried unanimously.
Separately, the board authorized the Town Administrator to sign a CMP pole application for a proposed pole on North Road (motion by David Hill, seconded by Richard Hackel); the motion carried unanimously.
The minutes also record project updates including a 30% design expected for the Stone Pier, GEI work on South Shore Drive with a permit to be submitted to the Maine DEP before construction, and continuing discussions around traffic and parking at Bennett’s Cove. The board placed related updates and a GEI update on future agendas.
