Jonesville principal presents report-card gains; board approves improvement plan

The presenter, identified in the meeting as the Jonesville principal, said the school’s elementary and middle ratings were both 45 points (average) and highlighted subject-level outcomes: elementary SC Ready ELA meet-or-exceed at 53.3% (an increase over the prior year) and elementary SC Ready math at 35.6%. The principal said student progress measures showed gains and that the lowest-performing 20% of students made meaningful growth.
Staff described steps to reach the plan’s targets: implement HMH reading in K–5 and StudySync in grades 6–8, use I-Ready diagnostics and personalized learning paths, conduct weekly and biweekly PLCs with instructional coaches, maintain monthly MTSS meetings, and provide targeted reading interventions and math intervention supports. The plan sets specific targets: a 10-percentage-point increase in overall progress points (from about 41.5% to 51.5%), a 10-point gain in SC Ready ELA meet-or-exceed rates and a 10-point gain in SC Ready math (28% to 38%) by spring 2026.
Board members asked about monitoring checkpoints (45th, 90th and 135th days), estimated costs and staffing. Presenters said the cost figures in the packet were estimates and that some positions — notably a full-time math coach — would increase potential impact but require funding decisions in upcoming budget meetings.
After discussion, a board member moved to accept the Jonesville improvement plan; the board approved the motion by roll call. The superintendent and school leadership will submit the plan to the state department for formal approval and return monitoring data at scheduled checkpoints.
