Students, St. Thomas Academy and parks staff present on Future City, lake testing and 2025 parks accomplishments

Students from Friendly Hills Middle School presented their Future City Competition entry and described how the exercise increased their interest in municipal decision‑making. Councilor Mazzitello said he has worked with Friendly Hills on the contest for 17 years and that the program has helped students engage with city operations.
Sonja Jaworski of St. Thomas Academy introduced students who presented the annual Rogers Lake water quality report. The students shared their findings and answered council questions; Councilor Paper asked that next year’s packet include the testing site locations. Councilor Mazzitello noted an improvement in lake water quality and said the annual report has helped neighbors take steps to improve conditions.
Meredith Lawrence, Parks and Recreation/Assistant Public Works Director, presented a 2025 "Year in Review" video highlighting accomplishments in parks, recreation, recycling and the Mendota Heights Par 3 Community Golf Course, and outlined plans for 2026. Councilors and the mayor expressed appreciation for the presentations and for partnerships with schools and volunteers.
