Canton council cashes CD, approves mower trade‑in, building permit and continues property inspection policy

The Canton City Council on April 9 carried several routine items on the consent and new‑business portions of the agenda.
Jason Magnuson moved, and Jeremy Hanson seconded, to cash out the Wilken certificate of deposit on its April 28, 2025 maturity date (amount recorded as $10,259.57) and deposit the funds into the Park/Ballfield checking account; the motion carried. The council also authorized trading in the city’s current mower toward purchase of a new 2024 Altoz mower from Run Right Power Equipment; that motion was made by George Hafner and seconded by Jen Dowling.
Clerk Anne Koliha asked the council for direction on the 2025 property‑inspection program. Councilmembers reached consensus to continue the same complaint‑driven process used in prior years, handling issues case by case. The council supported using an insert in utility bills to remind property owners about maintenance and asked Koliha to consult law enforcement about enforcement of unregistered vehicles.
The council approved a building permit for Roman and Teriana Yoder to construct a garage; the motion was made by George Hafner and seconded by Jeremy Hanson and carried. Earlier in the meeting the consent agenda passed, approving the March 12 regular‑meeting minutes, April disbursements, and cash prizes for the Adopt‑A‑Planter spring/summer 2025 contest (prizes $100/$75/$50).
