Canton council adopts ethics policy, approves building permits and accepts firefighter resignation

The Canton City Council at its May 14 regular meeting approved several administrative actions, including adopting a City of Canton Code of Ethics policy, approving multiple building permits, accepting a firefighter resignation and authorizing recruitment advertising.
Councilmember Jen Dowling moved to adopt the Code of Ethics policy; Councilmember George Hafner seconded and the motion carried. The council approved building-permit applications for Josh Nordsving, Devry and Tina Kerns, and Lynn and Marilyn Haakenstad on motions by Jason Magnuson with second by Jen Dowling; each motion was recorded as carried. The council also accepted the resignation of firefighter Josh Hosting, acknowledging 15 years of service, and voted to place advertisements for new Canton Fire Department applicants in the Fillmore County Journal and on social media.
Minutes record motions and that each motion 'carried'; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the minutes. The council adjourned at 6:32 p.m.
