Canton Council approves $15,000 purchase of fire rescue pumper truck

The Canton City Council on April 9 approved the purchase of a used fire rescue pumper truck from Chester Fire Department for $15,000. The council agreed to pay $10,000 from the City Fire Department general fund and $5,000 from the Canton Fire Relief Association; the motion was made by George Hafner and seconded by Jen Dowling and carried.
The purchase comes amid recent operational activity by the department. Fire Department representative Jim Davis described a recent gas leak that prompted precautionary evacuations of about 1½ blocks of homes and told the council the department will receive replacement air bottles (SCBAs) from Chatfield Fire Department “at no cost” to the city. The council thanked Chatfield for the donation.
Clerk Anne Koliha and council members noted the council also recognized two firefighters for long service. The council marked 20 years of service for Jim Davis and Dan Gulbranson and thanked them for their work with the Canton Fire Department.
