Canton council approves routine agenda items, accepts fire-department resignation, appoints two firefighters and OKs temporary liquor license

At its July 9 meeting, the Canton City Council approved the agenda and consent items, accepted the resignation of firefighter Bill Richardson, appointed Logan Richardson and Alex Arneson to the fire department, and approved a temporary liquor license for the Canton American Legion for Aug. 15–17, 2025.
The Canton City Council on July 9, 2025 approved a series of routine actions including acceptance of a fire department resignation, two appointments and a temporary liquor license for a local veterans organization.
Councilmember Jen Dowling moved to accept the resignation of Bill Richardson from the Canton Fire Department; Councilmember George Hafner seconded the motion, and the council approved the resignation with thanks for Richardson’s 14 years of service. The council then approved appointments for Logan Richardson and Alex Arneson to the Canton Fire Department on a motion by Dowling, seconded by Hafner.
Councilmember Jason Magnuson moved to approve a temporary liquor license application for the Canton American Legion for Aug. 15–17, 2025; Councilmember Jeremy Hanson seconded the motion and the license application was approved. Earlier in the meeting the council also approved the agenda (motion by Jen Dowling, seconded by Jeremy Hanson) and the consent agenda, which included approval of the June 11 meeting minutes and July disbursements (motion by Jeremy Hanson, seconded by George Hafner).
All motions were recorded in the minutes as “motion carried.” The council adjourned at 6:24 p.m. after the final motions were completed.
