Canton reviews preliminary streets-project plan; WHKS schedules public meetings

Engineers from WHKS presented preliminary plans and a proposed schedule for Canton’s streets and related infrastructure improvements at the City Council meeting on Aug. 13. Kevin Graves and Victor Holland described breaking the work into smaller phases—water tower painting; drilling a new well and building a pumphouse; wastewater-plant improvements; county road work; and city street reconstruction—to make the overall program more manageable.
The consultants told the council they have discussed wastewater upgrades with USDA-RD and were advised that the work needed to meet nitrogen limits should be considered part of the overall improvements, not a separate amendment to existing funding. Kevin Graves said the firm plans public information meetings in October for residents to review preliminary plans and submit comments.
