The Canton City Council approved Resolution No. 2025-13 on Sept. 10, 2025, establishing the citys 2026 preliminary tax levy.
Clerk Anne Koliha told the council the general fund budget currently reflects a 10% proposed tax levy increase but staff and council will work to reduce that before the end of the year. Koliha said the sewer fund is still a work in progress and may require a utility rate increase to balance it, while the water fund is in a healthy position.
Councilmember Jen Dowling moved to approve the resolution; Councilmember George Hafner seconded and the motion carried. The preliminary levy sets the figure used for statutory notices and budget planning; the council and staff will continue budget discussions and public information steps ahead of final levy adoption.
