Trustees approve Sutphen ladder and thermal cameras; promote and hire staff for expanded emergency coverage

The department also authorized purchase of three thermal imaging cameras that met the department’s specifications; bids included models from Sutphen and Finley Fire, with Sutphen’s ISG camera meeting or exceeding temperature and image-quality specs.
On staffing, trustees approved hiring six firefighters to begin March 26, 2001, and promoted several existing firefighters to lieutenant status effective the same date to maintain coverage on two medic units. The trustees also approved several training and equipment requests during 2001 including PEPP instructor training for three personnel, driver-training classes and other professional development to sustain the expanded roster.
Chiefs and staff said the new ladder and cameras will improve operational capacity for large or complex incidents; the purchases will move forward under the bid and procurement terms reviewed at the meetings and documented in the minutes. All personnel actions were approved by recorded motions and vote tallies in the meeting minutes.
