Norwich awards cemetery service-garage contract, sets contingency and trailer workspace

Norwich Township trustees awarded the construction contract for a service garage and related cemetery renovations to Countryside Construction and put project management measures in place before work begins in January.
At the Dec. 28 meeting trustees accepted the architect’s recommendation and awarded the contract for $147,900; the board also approved a $15,000 contingency for unforeseen conditions. To speed on-site administration during construction, the township will install a field office trailer behind the salt shed; the trailer arrangement includes an initial fee and monthly rental for the construction period. Trustees authorized Jim Rice to approve change orders up to $1,500 to avoid delay on small but time-sensitive items.
The board set a pre-construction meeting for Jan. 4, 2002 and a ground-breaking on Jan. 7. The contract includes typical construction oversight tasks; the architect will review bids, verify contractor qualifications and monitor the contingency as work proceeds. The work includes roof replacement, interior painting and lighting, upgraded heating systems in the service bay, and an office addition as described in construction documents prepared by the township architect.
Trustees also approved immediate drain repairs at the firehouse yard (single-contract authority to proceed if the price stayed under ORC thresholds) so work could be completed before winter hazards increase. Project paperwork was sent to the township attorney for final review before formal notices were issued.
