Wayne Select Board approves FY27 appointments, discusses planning-board vacancy

The Town of Wayne Select Board approved its FY27 slate of board, commission and committee appointments and discussed a planning-board vacancy and application procedures for different types of advisory bodies.

A motion to approve the list of appointments — which included town-manager appointments and several committee placements — was seconded and carried by voice vote, 5-0. Board members noted a packet and an updated sign-in sheet were available for signatures, and they agreed to follow the appointment processes already set for governing boards and commissions.

Board members discussed a planning-board vacancy: Doug Ferris's term had expired and an email from Andrew Goral was cited recommending Ferris for reappointment. The board agreed to seek alternates when necessary and to repost an alternate position that had recently been taken down after election results were finalized. "For committees, our policy was that boards and commissions get applications; advisory committees were treated differently," a select board member said, describing the town's existing classification and application practice.

Members noted the comprehensive planning committee is appointed to carry a charge through to completion and that incoming select board members would have an opportunity to name their representative where appropriate. The board also directed staff to provide updated appointment sheets for signatures and plans to follow up on outstanding paperwork for appointees.

The item concluded with the motion to approve appointments and the board moved on to new business.
