The Town of Hilton Head Planning Commission unanimously approved a major development plan for the Sandalwood food pantry, allowing construction of a new 3,200-square-foot building at 95 Augusta Lane (Beaufort County Tax Map Parcel R5107000And7240).
For the record, Brian Eber, principal planner for the Town of Hilton Head, presented the application on behalf of Charles Hader the fifth of LJA Engineering. Eber said the project includes tree preservation, a bio-infiltration stormwater best-management practice and a delineated wetland buffer. He described current pantry operations inside a church on Beach City Road and said the new building would accommodate the pantry’s growth.
During questions, commissioners asked about timing; staff said they "anticipate hopefully this summer" for a start date. No members of the public spoke during the public-hearing portion.
A motion to approve the development plan was moved and seconded on the floor and carried unanimously. The commission’s approval came after staff and the project architect, introduced as Tim Propst, confirmed setbacks and buffers would be preserved and the plan met requirements under the town’s LMO and staff review.
Next steps: the approval clears the major DPR application to proceed to implementation tasks; permits, contractor procurement and specific construction scheduling were not specified in the meeting record.
