Spring Lake Heights council approves consent agenda, keeps recreation fees unchanged and hears grant update

The Spring Lake Heights Borough Council on Jan. 30 approved a consent agenda that included personnel updates, utility charge adjustments, 2025 recreation program fees, and authorization for Monmouth County to conduct aerial mosquito control operations within the borough.
Councilwoman Sara King moved and Councilman Christopher Willms seconded approval of the consent agenda (Resolutions R2025-49 through R2025-55); the motion passed unanimously. The consent items included appointing Shannon Brady to Independent Fire Co. #1 (R2025-49), refunds for a property-tax overpayment and duplicate utility payment (R2025-50 and R2025-52), a cancellation of taxes for a totally disabled veteran (R2025-51), a water-sewer account balance adjustment (R2025-53), establishment of 2025 recreation program fees (R2025-54), and authorization for Monmouth County Mosquito Division aerial operations (R2025-55).
Councilman Leonard Capristo reviewed recreation program fees and said the borough was able to keep fees the same as last year and that summer camp dates are being finalized; he urged interested applicants to visit the borough website for counselor openings. Borough Engineer Joseph May informed the council that changes to Green Acres grant restrictions for 2025 make Spring Lake Heights ineligible for a Green Acres grant and eligible only for a loan; he said he will not pursue the application under the new rules.
The council also approved Resolution R2025-57, the payment of the Jan. 28, 2025 bills list, on a motion by Councilman John Casagrande and second by Councilman Christopher Willms; the vote was unanimous.
The meeting opened and closed public comment by unanimous vote after no members of the public offered remarks, and the council adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
