Stanhope Board approves first readings of MOA-related policies and updates to electronic device rules

At the Feb. 19 meeting the Stanhope Board of Education approved first readings of multiple policy updates, including those related to the Uniform State Memorandum of Agreement between education and law-enforcement officials and separate general updates to student- and staff-related policies.
Superintendent Steven Hagemann presented the policy items. The board approved first readings for policies tied to the 2023 revisions of the Memorandum of Agreement, including P5512 (Harassment, Intimidation, or Bullying), P5533 (Student Smoking), P7441 (Electronic Surveillance in School Buildings and on School Grounds), and P9320 (Cooperation with Law Enforcement), along with corresponding regulations. The board also approved first readings of general-update policies and regulations such as P5111 (Eligibility of Resident/Nonresident Students), P5516 (Use of Electronic Communication Devices), P5701 (Academic Integrity), P8500 (Food Services), and regulation R5516 (Use of Electronic Communication Devices).
Hagemann told the board the district has been in compliance with the state updates; the policy committee also discussed a proposed AI policy sample from Strauss Esmay and indicated developing a local AI policy would be a larger project involving more stakeholders and potentially scheduled as a summer project or a goal for next year. The actions were recorded as first readings on the agenda and approved on roll-call votes.
