Stanhope council signals unanimous support to raise outside police-detail administrative fee to $25/hour

Chief Johnson, who attended the meeting, told council members that Stanhope’s outside-detail administrative fee is significantly lower than neighboring departments and does not reflect vehicle wear, fuel and administrative overhead. He said officers’ outside details sometimes run long (up to 12 hours) and that the current administrative fee yields about $9 per hour for the Borough.
Council members compared Stanhope’s fee with Netcong and Byram, which charge $25 per hour administrative fees. Mayor Ellen Wronko polled the governing body and all seven council members indicated support for raising Stanhope’s administrative fee to $25 per hour. Administrator Kevin McNeilly and Attorney Ursula Leo were asked to update Chapter 82 of the Borough code and prepare a formal resolution for a subsequent meeting.
No formal ordinance or fee change was adopted at the April 28 meeting; the action was a straw poll that produced unanimous support to move forward with a prepared resolution and code update. Council indicated the intent was to align administrative fees with comparable nearby departments to better offset municipal costs tied to outside-detail activity.
