The Springfield Board of Education approved a broad personnel slate for the 2025–26 school year at its July 28 meeting, including classroom aides, special education staff and administrative hires, and accepted one retirement.
The board voted to approve multiple appointments recommended by the superintendent, among them Lisa Ramirez as assistant principal at Jonathan Dayton High School at a salary of $118,000, and several instructional aides and specialists with salaries and account numbers listed on the agenda. Several hires were noted as pending satisfactory criminal-history background clearances.
Why it matters: the appointments fill openings across special education and general instruction before the new school year and set pay rates that affect budget planning.
Board members also accepted the retirement of Daniela Riccardi, the district’s technology coordinator, effective July 1, 2025, and recorded resignations from several staff including a registrar and multiple teachers with effective dates listed in the agenda.
The personnel package included approval of substitute rosters and rates for 2025–26 (NJ-certified teachers $135/day; paraprofessionals $20/hr.; nurses $190/day; bus drivers $25/hr.), summer ESY and program staffing, leave-of-absence requests, and appointments for before/after-school and childcare programs with enrollment-dependent pay scales. The motion to approve the governance items (Items 1–16 and addenda) was moved by Mrs. Turnbull and seconded by Mrs. Rinaldi; roll call recorded five members voting in favor with absences noted for other board members.
The meeting record notes multiple positions with funding account numbers and, in several personnel entries, an asterisk indicating hires were pending criminal-history background clearance. The agenda also listed conference travel authorizations and athletic coaching stipends approved as part of the package.
Next steps: the hires and retirements will be processed administratively; background checks marked as pending must clear before certain hires are finalized. The board will convene again Aug. 25, 2025.
