Board approves personnel changes, coach appointments, bedside-instruction contracts and donation

The Springfield Board of Education on Jan. 27 approved a series of personnel and program items including retirements, resignations, substitutes, leaves of absence, coach appointments, and education program contracts.
The board accepted retirements effective July 1, 2025 for Jessica Ging (elementary teacher), Josephine Cioffi (world language teacher), Karen Driscoll (instructional aide) and Roxanne Silberto-Graham (school nurse). The board also accepted the resignation of Kevin Schultz as middle-school boys baseball coach and approved hiring Christopher Moore to replace him as MS baseball coach and Brianne Willis as MS softball coach; the coach stipend for each is $5,068 for the 2024–25 school year.
Staffing approvals included additional district substitutes with specified daily/hourly rates, a portfolio review teacher for JDHS (Mary Ellen Powers, up to 20 hours, cost not to exceed $1,087.20), and personnel appointments in the addenda: Maria Rebelo (bus driver, $30.00/hr.), Meredith Gerckens (Supervisor of School Counseling Services, itinerant, on/about March 28–June 30, 2025 at $125,000), and Maria Marinaccio (Instructional Aide – Autism Program, pending criminal history background check).
The board approved two bedside-instruction contracts: Silvergate Preparatory for bedside instruction beginning Jan. 8 (approx. six weeks) not to exceed $3,300, and Actual Solutions for bedside instruction beginning Jan. 16 (approx. eight weeks) not to exceed $3,000. The board also accepted a donation of books from the Church and Cannon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for district libraries.
Leave requests approved included revisions and new requests for several staff (details recorded in minutes). The personnel and program items were approved by roll call with seven yes votes and two absences.
