Township reports $37,259.18 Gowan Ave grant, culvert timing unknown; tire funding motion fails

Silver Creek Township supervisors reviewed maintenance updates Nov. 7 that included a county grant and outstanding scheduling for a culvert replacement.
Maintenance reported the county approved an extension for the remaining grant funds tied to the 134th Street culvert replacement, and staff will reach out to the contractor for an expected completion date. Separately, the township received $37,259.18 in county grant money designated for the Gowan Ave project.
The board discussed equipment and vehicle needs. A motion by Supervisor Ryan Nelson to approve up to $500 to purchase new tires for the current truck did not pass (the motion died). Supervisor Andy Christensen said he “may have a set of wheels and tires to donate to get us through.” The board noted a new truck is expected to be available in December or January and that they will keep the current truck until the replacement is in hand.
Maintenance asked whether sharing equipment between townships is allowed; the board agreed equipment sharing is permitted but only with a signed mutual-aid agreement. Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen also noted the township will pay a MATIT workers' compensation premium of $7,580.00 at the end of the month.
Next steps: maintenance will contact the culvert contractor to request an estimated completion date and will coordinate vehicle needs pending arrival of the new truck.
