The work was presented with a $12,000 estimate from Carr's Tree Service; the Board authorized a modest contingency (authorization “up to $15,000”) to accommodate any necessary scope increases. The authorization was framed as maintenance to address safety and right-of-way clearance concerns.
On a separate maintenance item, the Board considered a proposal to lower a culvert on Baker Avenue. Vice Chairman Brandon Geyen raised liability concerns about altering water flow; Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved to complete the project as needed and to consult the township attorney about liability, with Chairman Helman seconding. The motion resulted in a 2-2 split and was not carried, leaving the committee without a clear directive to proceed.
Board members also discussed but did not act on replacement tires for a Chevrolet 1500, and noted that a hydraulic study is budgeted for 2025; the Board said it will gather estimates for that study, which officials said should remain valid for five years once completed.
Next steps: the tree trimming contract may proceed under the approved authorization. The Baker Avenue culvert matter will require further legal or technical review before any construction moves forward.
