Lancaster County directs engineering study on vacating a Prairie Home road

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners on June 2 approved a resolution directing the county engineer to study and report on the potential vacation of a portion of public road right-of-way near the unincorporated community of Prairie Home.
John Bur of Lancaster County Engineering told commissioners the portion under consideration is a minimal-maintenance two-lane grass path and an alley that is seldom used. He said the county is preparing regrading and ditch work in the area; the study will document conditions and support a future public hearing on vacation of the road.
The motion to direct the study passed by unanimous roll call. The board did not take any final action to vacate the road on June 2; the vote authorized the county engineer to prepare a study and report that will return to the board for formal consideration.
What’s next: Staff will prepare a written study and the board will schedule a public hearing on the road vacation following completion of the report.
