Stone Harbor advances 97th Street playground; seeks Green Acres grant for inclusive 82nd Street site

Councilmember Victor Foschini said materials for a new playground on 97th Street have been delivered and site preparation is underway, and that the Borough expects county decisions on a Cape May County Open Space grant within the next few weeks.
Foschini said the Borough is preparing a Green Acres grant application to help fund an all‑inclusive playground at 82nd Street, inspired by Jake's Place. He said a conceptual design and a community survey are posted on the Borough website and encouraged residents to participate; the topic is scheduled for a public hearing at the regular meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. and professionals involved in the Green Acres application process will make presentations.
Mr. DeBlasio said the decorative retaining wall at the 97th Street site is installed, but “due to weather constraints the playground surfacing cannot be installed,” and he anticipates surfacing will be completed in the coming months. Foschini also noted two special‑event applications expected on the next agenda: the Stone Harbor Chamber of Commerce Shive Polar Plunge on March 15 (11 a.m.–3 p.m.) and the Oceanview at Avalon Condominium Association annual meeting on April 12 (9 a.m.–noon).
The council will hear presentations and hold a public hearing on the 82nd Street Green Acres application at tonight’s regular meeting; any grant application and final design will proceed after public input and the required approvals.
